Start of seismic survey at the Berling gas field offshore Norway
OMV (Norge) AS has contracted Shearwater GeoServices to conduct an innovative seismic survey over the Berling gas and condensate discovery. Spanning an area of 1,040 km², the survey will commence on July 23, 2023, and last for three months.
This is a complex 3D seismic survey that will provide OMV with detailed information of the subsurface. Ultimately, this will enable the company to drill more efficient production wells.
“The data will support the development of the Berling field to realize its production potential and sustain Norway’s position as a major gas supplier to Europe”, says General Manager Knut Mauseth in OMV (Norge) AS.
The SW Tasman and the Oceanic Vega vessels of Shearwater will lead the operations. SW Tasman will deploy 300 ocean bottom nodes before Oceanic Vega acquires the survey.
Once the survey has been completed, it will take approximately one year to process the data.
The Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) for Berling was approved by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy on June 28, 2023. The Berling discoveries in production licence 644 (PL 644) area were made 2018. OMV (Norge) AS is the operator for the development and operating phase with a 30% working interest. The license partners are Equinor Energy AS (40%) and DNO Norge AS (30%).
